A five-storey under-construction building collapsed in Kolkata’s congested Garden Reach area late Sunday night, the entire structure collapsed, with parts of it falling on neighboring homes in the densely populated area .Rescue workers on Tuesday evening recovered the body of another person from underneath the debris of the collapsed five-storey building in Kolkata's Garden Reach area taking the toll to 10,Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and senior officers, along with disaster management teams and fire service officials, had rushed to the spot.Personnel of the state disaster management department, NDRF, fire department and Kolkata Police's disaster management unit resumed rescue operations. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, visited the spot and said the building was illegally constructed and has asked authorities to take action against those responsible.

Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire actor Madhur Mittal will be seen portraying the role of the legendary Sri Lankan spinner in his biopic. The film will be released on October 6 in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu.
Murali and Madhur in the morning visited Saltlake Shiksha Niketan School to promote their movie. Later, they interacted with press here and were seen enjoying the delicacies from Kolkata in the hotel.
Speaking about the film Murali said, “You all have seen me playing cricket. The film is much more than that. It’s a story of my childhood and the struggles that I had to phase in my personal and professional journey.”
Speaking about portraying the legend on screen Madhur said, “It was challenging but I saw a lot of his videos and tried to learn mannerism. I met Murali sir just once before starting the shoot and the only advice he gave me was that I shouldn’t try and mimic him. I have tried doing justice and I hope he and his family like the portrayal.”
24th September 2023, Asansol: A renovated Church at Chelidanga, in Asansol’s railway colony, named after St John The Apostle was formally blessed recently at an auspicious function attended by the Bishop and parish priests.
The consecration of the altar and the first Mass in the renovated church was offered by Bishop Elias Frank, the new Bishop of the Asansol diocese. It was also the Bishop’s first visit to St. John’s Church after his Episcopal Ordination which took place on 24th August 2023 at Holy Family Church, Nuta, Burdwan. Also present were Fr. Francis Badagu, Fr. Raymond Besra, Fr. Dolphy Mathias, Fr. Arbind Tirkey, Fr. Gerald Machado and other guests and invitees.
“The present St John’s Church, Chelidanga, constructed in 1991, required much repair and renovation work after 32 years. The renovation work with colourful glass motifs, windows and painted vaults have added to the spiritual ambiance,” said Parish Priest, Fr. Dolphy Mathias.
“Thus keeping in mind the place of worship and making it more suitable and appealing to the devotees who come to the Church to pray, an elaborate plan was made to use religious symbols and pictures in the Church,” recalls Fr. Mathias who contacted Church Art Kolkata, leading Church decor people.

Kolkata,17-09-2023- The Calcutta Football League round of super six match between Mohammedan Sporting Club vs Kidderpore SC dedicated all ticket proceeds and generous contributions towards supporting the family of a devoted fan Sirajuddin (Rajkumar) who tragically passed away during the match of Mohammedan Sporting Club vs Army Red.
The football community came together in an extraordinary act of kindness, showcasing the power of unity beyond the field. The match played between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Kidderpore SC was a heartfelt tribute to the late fan, Sirajuddin (Rajkumar), who had been a passionate supporter of Mohammedan Sporting Club for many years.

The new Metro Station will have three subways - a 735m long subway connecting the station to the Exhibition halls, Convention centre, and Central Arena; another connecting the entry/exit across Dwarka Expressway; while the third one connecting the Metro station to the foyer of the future Exhibition halls of ‘Yashobhoomi’.Delhi Metro will also increase the operational speed of Metro trains on the Airport Express Line from 90 to 120 km/hr, thereby reducing the travel time.
